June 23, 2011 – Mount Mary College President Receives 'Women of Influence' Award


Picture of Dr. Eileen SchwalbachDr. Eileen Schwalbach, President of Mount Mary College received a 2011 “Women of Influence – Community Supporter” award from The Business Journal serving greater Milwaukee. According to The Business Journal, the award recognizes “women who go beyond the call to devote time, energy and resources to the community.” Schwalbach was one of 29 women selected from more than 130 nominations in categories across industry sectors and leadership roles. She received the honor at an awards luncheon held on June, 10, 2011.

Dr. Schwalbach began her career at Mount Mary in 1993. She held several academic leadership positions until being named President in February 2009. In addition to her responsibilities at Mount Mary, she actively advocates for the improvement of education in the Milwaukee community. She serves as Co-Chair of the Greater Milwaukee Committee’s Talent Divided Initiative, a national effort to drive economic prosperity through education attainment. She also serves on the board of directors for Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Services.  Her contributions to the organization were acknowledged with the receipt of Milwaukee Achiever Literacy Service’s 2009 Legacy Award.

Additional boards served on include PAVE (Parents Advancing Values in Education), Milwaukee Academy of Science and St. Joan Antida High School.  Dr. Schwalbach also recently championed the launch of an AmeriCorps VISTA program. Sponsored by Mount Mary, and staffed with Mount Mary student volunteers, the program provides English language to members of Milwaukee’s Hispanic community to improve their educational, employment and business opportunities.

Mount Mary College, founded in 1913 by the School Sisters of Notre Dame, was Wisconsin’s first four-year, degree-granting Catholic college for women.
