Sister Monica Jean Welniak celebrates 50 years as a School Sister of Notre Dame. Ten years into her secular career, a seminarian took a summer job at her work place. He suggested that she take a look at religious life—an idea that she took to heart.
A meaningful time in my ministry…
One especially meaningful time in my religious life was during my silver jubilee. Traveling to Rome, Germany, Austria and Switzerland, I saw things that I would never have seen in my life and am happy that the jubilarians were able to share this experience.
What drew me to the SSND Community…
I had been working for ten years in the world, and things just didn’t seem to be going right for me. While I was working in Cincinnati, Ohio, there was a seminarian working with me for the summer. He asked me if I had thought about religious life, and before I knew it, I had come back to Marshfield and talked to the Sisters here. They got me ready, and I’ve been happy being part of the SSND community ever since.

We SSNDs are a happy group that helps others in need.
In my current ministry…
I am retired now but volunteer to do laundry for Saint Vincent de Paul, in Marshfield, and also at Cedar Rail Court, the housing complex where I live with 99 other people.
Looking back and looking ahead…
In our retirement years, we each have the opportunity to continue doing what we can as part of our community of religious Sisters.
