Jubilarian – 2010

Marianne Siegel, SSND
Professed in 1960

Sister MarianneSister Marianne Siegel celebrates 50 years as a School Sister of Notre Dame. A business degree and experience working at a credit union before becoming a Sister provided skills that have transferred  to ministry in hospitals and nursing homes.

A meaningful time in my ministry…
Twenty-five years ago, when I celebrated my silver jubilee, I had the opportunity to experience our SSND internationality in the company of classmates from other United States SSND provinces. During this time, we stayed at our Generalate in Rome and also traveled to Germany to visit areas of our roots. In another experience of our internationality, I spent Holy Week and Easter in the Holy Land. Walking the roads that Jesus walked and spending time in places of His lifetime and death were life-changing experiences for me.

What drew me to the SSND Community…
I was taught by SSNDs at Holy Name Grade School, in Sheboygan, Wis. After high school, I worked as an assistant treasurer at a credit union, and it was during that time that Sister Mary Edmund Burke encouraged me to follow God’s call.

One thing you might like to know about the School Sisters of Notre Dame…
We are called and we are sent to respond to the needs of the world. To do this more effectively, four of our present provinces (Mankato, Milwaukee, Saint Louis and Dallas) are in the process of forming one new province. This is an exciting time—a promising new moment in our SSND history.

In my current ministry…
Currently, I work part-time in the business office at the Lutheran Home/Harwood Place, in Wauwatosa, Wis. I received my bachelor’s degree in business at Mount Mary College, an SSND-sponsored college in Milwaukee. I taught in grade schools and high schools for a few years, but have spent most of my life working in the business offices at different hospitals and nursing homes.

Looking back and looking ahead…
I took flute lessons while in grade school and was part of the band and orchestra in high school. For several years, I performed with the Waukesha Area Symphonic Band and church choirs. I still play the flute for SSND functions and sing with the choir at Saint Jude the Apostle Parish, in Wauwatosa, Wis. If you would like to contact me (and I would love to hear from you), my address is Holy Assumption Convent, 1532 S. 72nd Street, West Allis, WI  53214.
