Jubilarian – 2010

Anne Arthur Klinker, SSND
Professed in 1950

Sister Anne ArthurSister Anne Arthur Klinker celebrates 60 years as a School Sister of Notre Dame. The Sisters meet contemporary needs by applying the SSND charisms in new ways—an exciting life that combines community and personal responsibility.

A meaningful time in my ministry…
When I returned to Milwaukee from Nigeria, I spent wonderful months in Alexandria with the O’Reillys (Sisters Denis and Brigid). Then began my studies as a chaplain, with Elm Grove, Wis., as home. I made it my business to get to know every Sister there, as well as in the province. This helped me to realize and appreciate the shoulders and prayers we lean on. I am proud to be one of the SSNDs!

What drew me to the SSND Community…
School Sisters of Notre Dame catechized at my home parish. Sister Margret Mary, in Neenah, and Sister Anne Mayer of Chicago had known me since I was four years old. Sister Mary George (Rose) Gentile took a group of us to the Milwaukee motherhouse in 1947. SSNDs were really the only Sisters I knew, although I did look into the Medical Missionaries as a possibility for me.

One thing you might like to know about the School Sisters of Notre Dame…
The SSNDs are truly avant garde—on the cutting edge regarding mission, women, Church, community and deep spiritual life. Our way of life requires taking personal responsibility to be Eucharist wherever we live and among all we meet.

In my current ministry…
Since 2002, I have been part-time chaplain at Saint Elizabeth Hospital, in Appleton, Wis., where I minister to staff, patients, and the public. What a blessing it is to minister amidst caring, loving people and to journey to the threshold of eternity with patients and their families.

Looking back and looking ahead…
Being a School Sister of Notre Dame has enabled me to work with people in a variety of places, allowing me a wonderful education. The SSND community has supported me in personal and spiritual growth, and I am deeply grateful.
