Sister Toni Marie Jendrasiak celebrates 50 years as a School Sister of Notre Dame. While her current ministry focuses on the needs of senior parishioners in a “quad” parish in Green Bay, Wis., Sister Toni Marie rejoices in the internationality of the SSND community.
A meaningful time in my ministry…
The year of my silver jubilee, I took part in the renewal program for jubilarians that was held at our Generalate in Rome. The experience of our internationality, the opportunity to visit some places of our foundational heritage, traveling on pilgrimage around Rome, Ostia, Assisi, Dachau, Munich and more, and discovering our SSND charism deep in the hearts of other SSNDs, has remained with me over the years.
What drew me to the SSND Community…
My great aunt (whom I met only once as a child) was Sister Humilitas Bootz. She prayed that someone of our family would become a Sister, too. SSNDs were my teachers throughout grade school, and I loved to help them whenever I could. Their faith and quiet joy impressed me. I was particularly drawn by the spirit of Sister Mary Elred King, our principal. I felt at home with SSNDs.
One thing you might like to know about the School Sisters of Notre Dame…
The charism given to Blessed Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger continues to shape our congregation and each Sister today, no matter where in the world we minister. Though lived out more diversely today, we continue our efforts in education that transforms lives.
In my current ministry…
Today, I minister in four linked city parishes (a quad parish) in Green Bay, Wis., as a Pastoral Associate. My focus is on providing for the needs of our senior parishioners, whether they are active in the parish, homebound or in care facilities. I am also engaged in bereavement ministry, along with 12 others who form our pastoral team in this area.
Looking back and looking ahead…
I am intensely proud to be an SSND, and proud of the ways in which we continue to respond to the needs around us. God’s faithful love has been with me (and us) over the years. It is this that I joyfully celebrate as a jubilarian.
