Arline Jaeger, SSND

Professed in 1949
Sister Arline Jaeger celebrates 60 years as a School Sister of Notre Dame. She ministered as a musician, teacher, school administrator, youth ministry center staff member and volunteer.
A meaningful time in my ministry…
When I was in eighth grade, my SSND music teacher offered to teach me how to play the church organ, free of charge, if I would help her play the numerous masses – without remuneration. Those were depression days, when I could never have hoped to pay for such lessons.
Later, as an SSND myself, I taught other students at various parishes, with the same financial agreement. This meant that when I left those missions, those parishes had organists who could continue the ministry. Some of those students played in their parishes for years, one of them for life.
What drew you to the SSND Community?
The interior call; but specifically to SSND was the sisters’ obvious dedication to their work, and a personal friendship with a few of the sisters.
What would you like people today to know about the School Sisters of Notre Dame?
We are alive and well. Although we are diminished in numbers we are active, responding to the needs of the day and the age.
What is your current ministry?
I am retired at Elm Grove, but I work in the finance office. I also volunteer as a tutor at Milwaukee Achiever at the Pierce Street Center.
Is there anything else that you would like to share?
Come to visit us at Notre Dame of Elm Grove. We are a vibrant and interesting group. We enjoy giving tours and listening to your stories.
