The
School Sisters of Notre Dame have sponsored Notre Dame Middle School (NDMS)
since it opened its doors in 1996 to 26 fifth and sixth grade girls. The school helps primarily
Hispanic girls in grades 5-8 prepare to successfully complete high school and go on to college.
NDMS fosters small class sizes to facilitate hands-on teaching.
This approach, combined with a unique after-school enrichment program
that keeps the students in school until 6:00 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, has shown considerable
success in preparing these usually at-risk students for higher education.
From its first graduation class of 13 girls in 1999 to the 27 girls completing eighth grade in 2007, NDMS has a total of 179 graduates.
This year 121 students are enrolled at NDMS. Through the generous donations from friends and supporters, a new gymnasium, state of the art science lab and art studio were recently added to the school.
